We are delighted to announce the launch of the MA Games Design (Narrative) programme at the University of Bristol, the first of its kind dedicated to training the next generation of narrative designers. The programme, directed by Dr Richard Cole (Digital Futures) and Dr Michael Samuel (Film and TV), will provide cutting edge insights into the four areas of narrative design for games, from storytelling and technical implementation to teamworking, and critical thinking.
The vision is to equip students with a deep understanding of narrative structures across media and culture, and then empower them to help shape the stories of tomorrow in and through games. At every step, our teaching and practice-led approach will be supported by the leading research and game development taking place within the Bristol Digital Game Lab, as well as by our network of games industry collaborators. You will work across genres and platforms, exploring theory and application as you develop narrative game experiences with your peers.
If you are interested in applying for our first intake in academic year 2026/27, please reach out and talk us through your ideas! You do not need to have studied narrative or game design previously. The programme is open to all educational backgrounds. Full details, including entry requirements and key dates, can be found on the programme website.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to the development of this Masters degree, from industry collaborators and academic colleagues to those working hard at TIGA and Ukie to support and grow the UK games industries.
